Design Guidelines for Applied Coatings (DfM)

  • Dimensional Allowance: Powder coating adds significant thickness (approx. 50μm-150μm). Ensure your 3D models account for this “growth” in mating assemblies.
  • Hanging/Contact Points: Most coating processes require a physical contact point for electrical grounding or hanging; ensure non-critical surfaces are identified for these marks.
  • Uniformity & Recesses: For PVD (Line-of-Sight), deep recesses may receive thinner coverage. For complex internal geometries, consider electroplating or chemical conversion for more uniform distribution.
